Thanks to all my faithful readers who have stuck with me through a particularly long hiatus. I needed some time to myself, and now I feel ready to get back into a blogging frame of mind.
You've probably noticed the previous post and were wondering what's going on. In 1974 I visited Argentina as an exchange student, and lived with the Cabrera family in San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca. The following year my host brother Héctor Gustavo went to Illinois, and visited us in Michigan a few times. After that communication between us waned, and for more than 30 years we were out of touch. I tried to find Gustavo through Google but without success.
Then, out of the blue he found a comment I wrote on Mr. Williams" blog, traced it back to this blog, and now we"re emailing each other, sharing our web links, and catching up. I don"t have any of my own Catamarca photos at hand, so I"m waiting to get some good ones from Gustavo, who used to develop his own photos. (Ché, enviáme unas lindas fotos pa' mostrar aquí.)
My time in Argentina as a teenager was a significant phase in my life, since I later got a degree in Spanish literature and Latin American studies, which led to living in Guatemala for seven years, (et cetera, et cetera).
And it probably had something to do with my dreaming last night in Spanish and Turkish, in the same dream.
